Sensecast/FAQ

Before you install

Questions people actually ask.

The short version of what is on the other pages: which forecast sources are free, what Pro costs, whether an account is needed, and how refunds work. Something more specific — the support page reaches a real inbox.

The app

Which forecast sources are free?

15 forecast sources are free with no account and no API key: the US National Weather Service, NOAA GFS, MET Norway, DWD via Bright Sky, Environment Canada GEM, Météo-France AROME, the UK Met Office, JMA, KNMI and DMI HARMONIE, ItaliaMeteo, CMA GRAPES, Open-Meteo, and OpenWeatherMap and WeatherAPI with an included key. Sensecast Pro adds the 3 flagship supercomputer models: ECMWF IFS, NOAA HRRR and DWD ICON.

Do I need an account?

No. Sensecast works fully without one — forecasts, radar, hazard trackers, widgets and the Weather Academy. An optional Sensecast account exists only for linking a purchase made on this website to the app; purchases inside the app use the store account you already have.

Does Sensecast work outside the United States?

Yes. The app routes to the national weather service that actually models your location — MET Norway, DWD in Germany, Météo-France, JMA in Japan and others — falling back to Open-Meteo's best-match blend where no national feed applies. Some hazard feeds are US-only by their nature: SPC tornado reports, DOE county outage counts and EPA AirNow station readings.

Is Sensecast an official source of weather warnings?

No. Sensecast relays warnings issued by official agencies — the NWS in the US — but it is not an official source. In an emergency follow your national weather service and local emergency management, not any third-party app.

Buying and billing

What does Sensecast Pro cost?

Three ways: $4.99 a month, $29.99 a year — about $2.50 a month, less than the radar app you already pay for, with a 7-day free trial — or a $99.99 Lifetime Pass offered for a limited window at launch. The free tier is a real app: 15 forecast sources, the full dashboard, live radar and the whole academy — not a demo.

How does the 7-day free trial work?

The trial comes with the annual plan. You get full Pro for seven days; if you keep it, the store bills the $29.99 annual price at the end of the trial. Cancel inside the trial window and nothing is charged.

Is there a lifetime option?

Yes — a $99.99 Lifetime Pass: one payment, every Pro feature and every future release. It is offered for a limited window at launch rather than as a permanent tier.

How do refunds work?

Through whoever took the payment. In-app purchases are refunded by the store — reportaproblem.apple.com for iOS, Google Play for Android — and purchases made on this site are processed by Paddle.com as Merchant of Record under the refund policy. Card details never reach Sensecast.

When something is wrong

Pro didn't activate on my new phone — what do I do?

Purchases are tied to your App Store or Google Play account, not the device. Open the Pro screen in the app and tap Restore Purchases; that re-checks with the store and re-activates a subscription or the Lifetime Pass. If it still will not restore, email [email protected] with the store account's region and approximate purchase date.

The weather won't load — where do I start?

Open Settings › Meteorology & Data › Connection Diagnostics in the app. It tests DNS, TLS and each provider endpoint separately, checks the device clock — a wrong date breaks the secure connection to every weather service at once — and runs the real fetch so you see the exact error. Use Copy / Share to attach the report to a support message.

Meteorological data is retrieved from official public open-data services operated by NOAA, ECMWF, DWD, Environment and Climate Change Canada, JMA, the UK Met Office, Météo-France and cooperating national agencies, under their respective open government data licences. Severe convective and tornado reports come from the NOAA Storm Prediction Center, earthquake data from the U.S. Geological Survey, active-fire detections from NASA FIRMS (VIIRS), and tropical cyclone tracks from GDACS. Power outage intelligence comes from the Outage Data Initiative Nationwide (ODIN) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the U.S. Department of Energy, with generation data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Air quality observations come from EPA AirNow. Radar frames are provided by LibreWXR (RainViewer as a backup), drawn over basemaps from CARTO and Esri. Sensecast is an independent application and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of these agencies. Storm verification reports are generated from public meteorological observations and are not a substitute for a professional loss adjustment.
